In the Monday issue of DN a Swiss company called Pictet Funds has reportedly started a special investment fund, Premium Brands, that only specializing on well, premium brands. As for shopping, they don’t advise against buying any items that carry a premium brand in the first place since the brand and image guarantees that the product will have a certain standard regardless of what. The article goes on to tell that Armani, Prada, Cartier and Italian Bulgari beside the Swedish Absolute Vodka touch a soft spot with the Swedish investment company’s official. Personally, I would never have forgotten Louis Vuitton in a list of my own favorite brands.

    Meeting with Jan Berglin

    Today we went to the great Swedish Book Fair, held at Svenska Mässan i Göteborg. There among about one million visitors were indeed a few highlights. At the Kartago Publishing Company’s booth we met with the well known Swedish cartoonist Jan Berglin. He is one of the driest, most academic authors to have ever drawn a comic cartoon. Here is a picture of Jan Berglin at the Kartago Publishing house booth, signing his latest book.

    JE in queue to meet Jan Berglin. A bright, happy kid is all I see! Pretty much as any eight year old kid queing up to hand over his wishing list to Santa. David, JE’s son who is standing behind JE was also there.

    We couldn’t really help asking about his style, of mixing philosophy and quotations from our traditional literary heritage, with humor. As expected he just smiled and explained

    I guess that’s me. I try to put a lid on it but I can’t really help who I am.

    I figure that’s the way to do it. Just be yourself.

    Leveraging on events, beyond Nya Fröken Sverige

    A while back out of sheer desperation with what I read about how Sweden was dealing with their Miss Sweden Universe (Nya Fröken Sverige) event, I searched out who was running it. A few days later I met with the most considerate and charming CEO of Panos Emporio, Mr Panos himself, who after having been in the jury for some years, decided to take over the whole event in an attempt to turn the tide in Sweden back to the glamorous and high prestige event it had once been.

    The treatment Miss Sweden gets in the press was so far removed from my own experiences when I took part in the Miss Universe final in 1999 that I hardly recognized what I read in the Swedish newspapers. How come the same event was seen so different in Sweden, and why?

    My love affair with jewellery

    As a young girl, my parents often gave me jewellery in the form of simple gold ear studs, a gold ring and teddy bear pendants. My father would buy me silver bracelets, shell necklaces and silver bangles from Thailand and from his travels. My mother would buy me earrings, bracelets and rings in yellow gold, both to wear and to safekeep for the future.

    A love affair was thus born for me, between myself and jewellery.

    As I grew up, my parents bought me more lavish gifts in jewellery. I received a princess cut, channel set diamond and white gold eternity ring from my mother (also my father) when I was about 21. A sign of their love. As I am not in Singapore and as I hardly spend time with them these days, I wear this ring everyday as a sign of my love for them, keeping them close to my heart.

    A woman can express herself as much with the clothes and the jewellery that she wears, as with words.

    Jewellery today is as much a hobby of mine as is fashion (clothes, shoes, bags etc.).

    Punk fairies and fluid 70s for Spring 2008?

    Alright, I’m a slow starter. Always have been. I need time to warm up to new ideas. And at first glance now at the Spring 2008 Prada runway – I’m less than bowled over by Miuccia’s new collection.

    I’ve tried all my life – literally – to run away from the 70s era. I was born then.

    I’m so done with the fashion of that time. So imagine my horror when one of my favourite designers, Prada, pulls out the wide leg 70s pants! Worse still, it’s back – in floaty material! I can already imagine the cheap synthetic copies that will be out in the stores next spring. *CRINGE!*

    London, June 2007

    In June 2007 I spent a few days in London in a combined business and pleasure trip. It was almost a decade since I was there last, at that time with my parents. This time I could steer my steps better and of course went directly for the fashion districts and also to seek out any and all interesting exhibitions going on. And of course food.

    Chinatown

    The arrival to London from Landvetter, Gothenburg was early and after checking into the hotel, we (JE and I) explored the London Chinatown, near Leicester Square.

    Autumn 2007 – Wrap it with a belt!

    If you’re on a budget and you’re wondering what to invest in this autumn, not wanting to buy too many new items to your wardrobe, then the belt might be an accessory to consider.

    I walked away from my trip to London a few weeks ago with only ONE purchase. A cream patent leather L.K. Bennett belt which I bought from the store down Bond Street.

    Belts have the ability to transform a look from simple to something more glamourous, depending on the kind of belt you use. And for a small amount of money (a belt would certainly cost less than an entire new outfit), the nipped in waist also transforms your silhouette, so you will have a different look with and without just the belt.

    Here, I’ll show you how to really stretch your dollar and put that one accessory to good use or overuse. And I’m going to do that with the L.K. Bennett belt I purchased two weeks ago that looks like this:
